BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

On Friday, police and the Blue Springs School District were investigating a bizarre threat made by someone claiming to be a clown.

The district sent home a letter to parents letting them know that someone who identified themselves as a clown on social media had made threats to students at Freshman Center. The threatened students then reported the incident.

The school district and Blue Springs police say they thoroughly investigated the threats and determined they were not credible.

The all clear was given and school was held as usual on Friday.

There have been clown sightings across the country, including a clown in Wisconsin that has been nicknamed Gags the Green Bay Clown.

Police there say that because the clown is staying in public areas and out of the parks after hours, there is nothing illegal being done.

The Blue Springs Police Department and school district declined to be interviewed.
