KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Streetcar Authority voted unanimously to approve plans to add two more cars.

The money to purchase the cars would tentatively come from excess transportation development district funds or other funds that are available.

The purchase falls in line with a judge's ruling on Wednesday, which allows a vote on the expansion to move forward.

As part of the expansion, the KC Streetcar Authority touts the increased business along the existing route and has high hopes for the proposed line.

"Really, the goal is to use this as a long-term economic development tool for the entire city, not just the corridor, but definitely the hope is that we see the same sort of excitement and enthusiasm and positive economic impact that we've seen downtown," said Tom Gerend, executive director of the Kansas City Streetcar Authority.

The first ballot wouldn't be until April of 2017.

A series of meetings will be held which will allow the public to weigh in.
