KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man and his dog are recovering after the man was robbed and assaulted and the dog shot.

The attack happened about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 4900 block of Park Avenue in Kansas City, MO.

Police say a man and his friend, a woman, were away from the man’s home.

When they returned, three black men, who had hidden on the side of the house, ambushed the couple.

Officers say the suspects, armed with guns, kicked open the door to the house, forced the couple into the house, struck him on top of the head, shot his dog in the leg and left the house with his cash and the woman’s purse.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.

Both the man and the dog are expected to make a full recovery.

Police are still searching for the suspects.
