Man taken into custody after five hour standoff in Smithville

SMITHVILLE, MO (KCTV) -

A man was taken into custody early Thursday morning after a nearly five-hour standoff with police in Smithville.

Sheriff's officials were called out to assist the Smithville Police Department at 8:34 p.m. Wednesday on a shooting call.

Police gathered near the Smithville Housing Authority apartments by the corner of F Highway and Maple Avenue. 

Residences in the area were evacuated as a precaution. 

One person was taken to the hospital due to the shooting.  

Non-life threatening injuries were reported for the victim.
