INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

A 20-year-old has been charged in connection to the shooting death of a Van Horn High School sophomore.

Javon Reilly, 16, was shot minutes after school ended Monday at Van Horn High School. Reilly was found collapsed on his drive-way.

Tymon Reed faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.

Reilly was killed behind the school at South Home Avenue near Truman Road. The shooting happened just 17 minutes after students were let out of school.

The driveway where police found the teen is now filled with condolences written in chalk.

Reilly was clearly popular at his high school, with more than 3,000 Facebook friends.

The charges allege that his killer had a beef with one of the teen's friends and killed Reilly because he wouldn't fight him over it.

Suspects in car chase not involved in shooting

A car chase initially believed to have involved the shooting did not, according to police.

The Independence Police Department says the car that was chased was chased because it matched the description of the one seen speeding off nearby soon after the suspects ran on foot from the shooting.

Two people were arrested, but police determined those two were not involved in the shooting.

Police say they fled from the traffic stop because the car had been stolen in a burglary and they knew they were in a stolen car.
