PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (KCTV) -

A teenager is accused of sexually assaulting a fellow student in a Shawnee Mission school bathroom.

Officials say the alleged assault happened last Thursday at Shawnee Mission East after school had ended.

According to investigators, two boys and a girl - all under the age of 15 - were chasing each other around the gym.

At some point, the two boys had tricked the girl into going inside the boy's bathroom, according to investigators.

One of the boys held the door shut. The second boy allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.

"This was a very serious event and we have taken it very seriously and from a criminal side is still under investigation," said John Douglass, the Shawnee Mission School District's Executive Director of Emergency Services.

Two separate investigations are happening, one led by the Prairie Village Police Department, the other conducted by the Shawnee Mission School District.

Officials say they don't believe the boy who held the door shut had any idea what was going on inside the bathroom.

Some parents say the suspect and the victim were both in school on Tuesday.

The district cannot comment on that, but did say the two parties will not be in contact with each other.
