NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A popular band director is gone from a northland school following a complaint about inappropriate contact with a student.

North Kansas City Schools spokeswoman Rochel Daniels would not say whether the Oak Park High School teacher resigned or was fired but said law enforcement is now investigating.

Daniels said Adam Farley started teaching music at the school in 2006. A yearbook from that school year indicates he graduated from Oak Park in 2002.

A statement from the school district indicates the district "recently received a report" that the teacher "sent inappropriate communications to a former student."

Daniels would not clarify when the alleged violation happened or how old the student was at the time.

A woman whose son was in band at the school several years ago said her son and his friends in band spoke highly of Farley as one of the cool teachers.

But when she told her son about Tuesday's development, he said he wasn't surprised and revealed that Farley made sexual remarks to him and friends.

The district told us the Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating but the agency's spokesman, Capt. Will Aiken, said a report was not yet available as of close of business Tuesday.

KCTV5 tried reaching Farley at his home to see if he had any comment but he wasn't home.

A check of jail and court records Tuesday revealed no indication of him being arrested for or charged with any crime.

The district's full statement reads as follows:

North Kansas City Schools has always identified the safety and security of its students as its highest priority.  To that end, the district has board policies and procedures in place that prohibit inappropriate communications between staff and students.  The district recently received a report that a teacher at Oak Park High School had sent inappropriate communications to a former student.  That teacher is no longer with the district.  At this time, there is an ongoing investigation into the matter, and the district is cooperating with our partners in law enforcement.  Due to the nature of the allegations, the district is unable to provide specific information about its role in the investigation.  Any further questions should be referred to law enforcement.
