Man accused of carjacking 2 elderly women in northeast Kansas Ci - KCTV5

A man is accused of carjacking two elderly women in the northeast area of Kansas City.

Eduardo Irhneis Escobar, 25, has been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

Court documents state that two women – ages 91 and 63 – pulled into a Walgreen’s parking lot Tuesday night in the 5400 block of Independence Avenue.

According to the documents, the suspect demanded the younger woman to exit out of the car. There was a struggle, but the suspect allegedly pulled a gun out and entered the vehicle.

The 91-year-old woman was in the passenger seat. She asked the suspect, “Are you stealing my car?”

The suspect then allegedly shoved her out of the moving vehicle.

Following the theft outside of Walgreen’s, the car was involved in a police chase in the Northland.

Police and the victims used a “Find My Phone App” to trace the stolen vehicle to the area of 50th and Park Avenue.

The app then tracked the car moving north.

Officers started pursuing the vehicle, but the suspect sped up, topping 90 miles-per-hour at one point.

After fleeing from police, he wrecked into a grassy berm on Brink Meyers Road. A short foot-chase began with police, but officers eventually took the man in custody.

Escobar confessed to stealing the car, but denied pushing the woman out of the moving vehicle.

A $75,000 bond has been requested.
