ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens is expected to ask a judge to move up his criminal trial to April 3, more than a month earlier than scheduled. At a hearing Monday, attorneys for the Republican governor told Judge Rex Burlison they expect to request an earlier trial date and bench trial. The circuit attorney's office opposes both notions. The case is scheduled for a jury trial starting May 14.

ELSBERRY, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri man is jailed after allegedly banging on a police station door and confessing: "I murdered my father." The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 23-year-old Brandon Spies of Elsberry is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is jailed on $500,000 bond. Officers found 53-year-old Richard Spies dead in the basement of a home. He had been stabbed.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Republican state Rep. Cloria Brown has died. Her legislative assistant, Brenda Frank, on Monday said Brown died at age 75 after battling cancer. Voters first elected Brown to the Legislature in 2010. She represented part of suburban St. Louis, including Mehlville. Brown was known for sponsoring legislation to require businesses to hang posters advertising the national human trafficking hotline.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Fraternity chapters at the University of Missouri say they're still studying a consultant's October report warning the school to change the culture of Greek life on campus. University Dean of Students Jeff Zeilenga tells the Columbia Daily Tribune the school is still looking at the recommendations from Dyad Strategies. Dyad says the university should change Greek life recruitment, ban freshmen from living in chapter houses and require residents' rooms to be open for inspection during parties.
