INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

A single mother, raped by multiple men in front of her daughter, is desperate for tips to catch her attackers.

She shares her horrendous story in hopes that someone will come forward with information.

The woman, who we will only refer to as Taylor, told police on Feb. 9 between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. she was awoken to a man standing over her inside her third floor apartment. The young mother was living at the Stoney Brook Apartments located off of U.S. Highway 24.

Soon she said four to five men had somehow forced their way into her apartment and were in her bedroom.

That night her daughter had fallen asleep next to her in bed.

“She held my hand through the attack. It was horrific to experience rape by multiple men knowing my daughter was awake,” Taylor said. “That right there is probably what haunts me more.”

She said the men took off her pants and covered her face so she couldn’t see. She used her hearing to gather what evidence she could.

“Another guy appeared in the doorway and the guy that was on top of me was like, ‘Josh, Josh, you need to come here,’” Taylor recounted.

Based on how they talked, Taylor thinks all of the men were in their 20s. She said the first man to attack her was white, tall and thin with short blondish, light brown hair.

“To make sure I had DNA everywhere I could get it, I didn't shower afterward. I didn't use the restroom,” she said.

She said the men took pictures of her on their phones while she was on her white sheets. She wants anyone who has seen the pictures, possibly on social media, to call police immediately.

“I want them found soon. I want them prosecuted and behind bars. I don't want them to think they can do this ever again,” Taylor said.

She no longer lives at the apartments where she was raped.  As she hopes for arrests, Taylor is trying to heal.

“It catches me at the most random times. I don't sleep well. I have a security system. I've got a Taser I keep by the bed,” she said.

The night of the assault, Taylor said one of the men mentioned it was one of their birthdays that night. She asks that anyone who knows a man with that birthday who could have been in the Independence area to call police at 816-474-TIPS or 816-325-7777 or email leads@indepmo.org.

When asked for an update, Independence police would only say the case is an “open and active investigation and they are still working diligently on it.”
