KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Force is awake and excited Star Wars fans are packing movie theaters.

Much is being done behind the scenes to get movie goers safe.

Die-hard fans may want to dress up like Hans Solo, Chewie, Princess Leia or Darth Vader. But there are limitations on how you can dress and what you can bring to AMC theaters, which is the biggest movie theater chain in the Kansas City area.

"AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint," according to the statement. "Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks or face paint. In short, bring your light saber, turn it off during the movie and leave the blaster and Darth Vader masks at home."

Cinemark bans light sabers. At least two people including Ryan McCullough were asked to take their light sabers back to their vehicles before going into the movie.

"It's not like we were going to be able to go out and hurt anything," McCullough said. "But it's understandable."

Are you seeing the new Star Wars movie this week? Are you trying to avoid spoilers?
