New procedure offers hope to back pain sufferers

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

A new procedure being offered in the Kansas City area is giving hope to victims of debilitating back pain.

Cindy Nabors said the non-fusion spinal stenosis treatment, which is called Coflex, has changed her life.

"I can't tell you many doctors I've seen that just said, 'You know, I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do,'" she said.

She had tried massages and chiropractor sessions but they didn't give her relief. She even took pain medication and used ice and heating pads.

Then she met Dr. Glenn Admunson at Menorah Medical Center. He is the only Coflex-trained surgeon in the region.

He said the procedure removes bone and ligament and then a titanium implant is inserted in the spine. This realigns and stabilizes the spine.

The best candidates are those with spinal stenosis in their lower back, someone who has been treated by a doctor without relief for six months without having had surgery. The patient must be at least 40 years old.

Following the surgery, patients experience little downtime and a shorter period of rehab. For more information on the procedure, click here

"I just can't tell you how excited I was," Nabors said. "I'm doing great. I'm doing really good. Pain meds are minimal, which is awesome."
