KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Three teens are still recovering after they were hit by a car in KCK last month.

A fourth teen, Tierra Smith, died Friday due to injuries she sustained in the accident.

Smith was a student at Raytown High School. The school district says counselors visited her classes to help her peers talk through their grief.

Tamika Pledger, a candidate for the Unified Government Commission, was charged with four counts of reckless aggravated battery in the crash. She is out of jail on bond and due in court Tuesday.

In addition to Smith, a boy and two girls were hurt in the crash. Family members of the boy have said he suffered broken bones, including his legs.

Desiree Golden said her two sisters, 14-year-old Brandy Robinson and 17-year-old Essence Robinson, were walking home from the bus stop after school when they were hit by Pledger's car.

"Brandy said it happened so fast, she never knew the car even hit her," Golden said. "She was just knocked across the street."

The two have been in the hospital recovering from their injuries ever since.

Essence Robinson has a broken leg. Brandy is worse off with a broken leg, shattered wrist and broken arm, and she has been sedated since Thursday when she had a seizure on the way to the operating room.

Golden has been by their sides at the hospital every day. She says seeing them struggle brings her to tears.

"Those are my little sisters and seeing my little sisters in pain hurt me too," Golden said.

Golden has started a GoFundMe page to help with mounting medical expenses. Click here if you'd like to make a donation.
