Extreme cold brings fresh crop of potholes

OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -

The extreme cold has brought a fresh crop of potholes.

And with the warmer weather, road crews are working hard to make repairs.

"It's been extremely cold even though we haven't gotten a lot of snow and ice," said Ron Ditmars of the city of Olathe. "So it gets a lot of freeze and thaw in the pavement."

The constant expansion and contraction weakens the pavement. Vehicles driving over the weakened pavement cause pieces to break apart, and the pothole gets bigger and bigger.

Public works officials ask that you keep a close eye out for crews making repairs in the coming days. You can always report potholes by clicking here.
