Highway drivers crane necks to see new golf complex soaring in sky

Posted: Updated:

It will be a state-of-the-art golf entertainment complex opening this summer in Overland Park.

But as its built, drivers on Interstate 435 are craning their necks to catch glimpses of the construction soaring high into the sky. Giant nets are strung high to prevent balls from flying off the complex.

TopGolf International will open its 20th facility in the 10600 block of Nall Ave. The company describes the game as a cross between bowling, darts and golf. The entertainment complex includes restaurants, a bar and a clubhouse-like atmosphere.

"There's more stuff to do than just the golf," said Bryan Musgrove, construction supervisor for TopGolf. "It's a great environment for all ages."

Area residents admit to being perplexed by the gargantuan structure and what it will wind up being.

In addition to the entertainment options, the facility will have a driving range with targets. Balls will contain microchips to keep individual scores for players.
