KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A passenger in a vehicle died when the driver lost control and hit a tree near 26th Street and Oakley Avenue.

Kansas City police responded to the crash at 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Investigators determined that the driver of the black Honda was traveling south when the driver lost control.

The vehicle traveled to the east, went airborne and hit a tree. Police believe speed was a significant factor in causing the crash.

The driver and two passengers were injured, and rushed to area hospitals. The rear passenger, 16-year-old James Hubbard of Kansas City, would later die after slamming into the windshield. The front passenger suffered serious injuries while the driver will be OK.

The three were in a stolen vehicle.
