Father wants answers after son killed leaving QuikTrip

Authorities are investigating after a 36-year-old Belton man died in a shooting early Monday morning.

Belton police responded to the area of Springdale Drive about 1:57 a.m. on the reported shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Chad Donaldson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Chad Donaldson managed to call 911 to tell them that he had been shot.

He was leaving a QuikTrip and walking to a friend's house near the Springdale Lake Mobile Home Park when he was shot in the stomach.

His grieving father, Craig Donaldson, retraced his son's steps on Monday as he searched for answers.

"It's real bad," Craig Donaldson said. "My son should have outlived me and not the other way around."

Neighbors said they did not hear any gunshots and were woken up by police knocking on their doors.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline or Belton police at 816-331-5522.
