Lawrence police search for killer of 19-year-old woman

Posted: Updated:

Police in Lawrence continue to search for clues that will lead to the killer of 19-year-old Justina "Tina" Alamirano Mosso.

Mosso was found dead inside Apartment #13 of the Cedarwood Apartments at 1727 W. 24th St. on Nov. 9. Police released her identity on Nov. 18, but didn't explain the delay.

Neighbors believe Mosso was a victim of domestic violence, but police have released few clues publicly.

Krystle Duval lives in the apartment and heard regular fights coming from inside the apartment. She said she is worried that no arrests have been made and has a hard time sleeping at night.

"He's still somewhere," Duval said. "I just make sure I have something with me to protect me."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or CrimeStoppers at 785-843-TIPS. If you want to leave your tip in Spanish, call 785-830-7482.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Sgt. Trent McKinley of the Lawrence Police Department said officers continue to investigate the case.

"We have talked to a number of people who have lived in that building that have visited, that know the victim," he said.

Lawrence has recorded six homicides this year compared to four last year. He said there is no common denominators between the homicides, which he said makes it difficult to try to prevent them.

"For example, if we knew that all these were gang-related or something along those lines then you attack the gang problem, but we don't have so far any sort of identified common denominator," McKinley said.

He said of the 10 homicides from last year and this year that all have been solved except for Mosso's death and he said he expects that will occur soon.
