Emotional service held for young man found murdered on Halloween

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A memorial service was held Saturday for 22-year-old Dionte Greene.

The young man was shot and killed on Halloween morning and police are still searching for his killer.

Greene's family and friends called Saturday a home-going celebration to honor a young man whose life was taken too soon.

It was an emotionally charged service that brought together all those who loved the young man.

“His smile itself would light up a room,” Tevin Roden said.

Roden said Greene was always ready with a kind word for anyone. A slideshow in his memory showed a smiling young man who loved everyone around him.

“He never said anything negative about anyone. He was the kind of person you could cherish,” Roden said.

Kandra Davis was on a drill team with Greene and knew him for several years.

“He had a very giving heart,” she said.

She finds the circumstances of her friend's death disturbing. He was found dead in a running car a week prior.

“It's senseless and tragic. It's devastating,” Davis said.

Greene's murder shocked the thousands of people he reached with his warm and loving heart, but his friends said they take comfort in the way he lived.

“I'm coping with it and being strong because I know he's in a better place,” Roden said.

Greene's murder is still unsolved. Police say anyone with information about the case should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
