KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Family and friends of 10-year-old Machole Stewart said goodbye to the little girl Saturday.

A funeral was held for the girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting about a week before.

Hundreds came to Forest Grove Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS, to mourn Machole.

"People say it's hard to experience your parents' passing, but the death of a child and being such a young child…,” said Tracey Simmons, a cousin, as she shook her head.

Those in attendance were also there to cherish the young girl's life.

"That's what we're going to do today is focus on the positive of her life because I believe she deserves that," said Desmond Lamb, the church's pastor.

Machole was the victim of a drive-by shooting directed towards a home in KCK on Sunday. Neighbors said they heard at least a dozen gunshots and at least one of them hit the little girl, killing her.

"I cried like a baby because I felt like I was losing my child all over again," Simmons said. "It wasn't just a loss for our family - it was a loss for a lot a people."

"Disappointment, I couldn't quite understand how someone could do such a…carry out such an evil act," Lamb said.

Lamb said he knows anger is understandable, but he does not believe that's the answer.

"Remember out little angel's life and not allow how things took place to overshadow her life because she was a very positive child, she was a very passionate child,” he said.

"She was a wonderful baby. She loved everybody, everybody loved her, her spirit was great,” Simmons said.

Both people believe police will eventually catch her killer.

"My prayer is that justice will be served," Simmons said.

"We have to become a society again of structure that has civilized people,” Lamb said.

A peace rally is scheduled at Heathwood Park, located at North 10th Street and Parallel Parkway in KCK, Sunday at 4 p.m. to honor the life of Machole.
