KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A 10-year-old girl was fatally shot in KCK Sunday night, authorities said.

Machole J. Stewart was a student at Rosedale Elementary School. She was sitting inside a home that was struck by gunfire during a drive-by shooting.

Shots rang out just after 7 p.m. in the 1400 block of New Jersey. According to police, Machole died at the scene.

There were up to seven people inside the house where Machole was shot.

Someone inside a vehicle sprayed a barrage of shots over a two-block area, striking houses and vehicles. Machole was inside one of the houses hit by gunfire. No one else was injured.

Witnesses described hearing more than a dozen shots ring out. Detectives searched Sunday night for shell casings that littered the neighborhood. Authorities don't know who the intended target was, but says it is tragic that an innocent girl died in such a manner.

As for Machole's loved ones, they are horrified and have a message for the killer.

"Turn yourself in. You're wrong, step up, be a man and admit to your mistakes. You caused this family a lot of undue harm and stress that we did not need, and you have rocked us so hard. Just be a man about it and put down them guns, please," the victim's aunt, Nikki Smith, said.

Police told KCTV5 News that they are still trying to get a better description of the shooter, as well as the shooter's vehicle.

If you have any information, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

This is the second young girl to be killed in the Kansas City area since Oct. 17. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker decried the violence in a tweet Sunday night.

"Time for real change KC. Children should not be victims of gun violence," she wrote.
