KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A woman was found dead after co-workers became concerned when she didn't show up for work.

Kansas City police say the woman, later identified as 49-year-old Teresa E. Kellough, was fatally shot.

About 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers went to the home in the 4200 block of Forest Avenue. Concerned co-workers had gone to the woman's home and a friend with a key opened the door, and they found Kellough's body.

"She did not show up to work today and evidently that's out of character for her. So some friends came by to check on her and found her inside her residence," Kansas City police Capt. Tye Grant said.

A suspect description has not been released.

Investigators are working to notify the Kellough's next of kin.

Mannheim neighborhood residents are saddened and upset by the death.

The neighborhood has been seeing a revitalization and the woman had just bought the house.

"It had been an old, raggedy rundown property," said Augusta Wilbon of the neighborhood association. "We rehabbed it and she bought that house. Everybody's been raving about how nice that house is. She's been a good neighborhood partner."
