LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

Others might think twice before biting into a candy bar after a Lawrence mother found a needle inside her son's candy.

Tamara Powell purchased three Reese's Pumpkins from Dillons at 1015 W. 23rd St. about 6 p.m. Sunday. When she opened the candy, she couldn't believe what she found.

She promised her son a snack, and by chance, she took the first bite.

"Luckily, it didn't stab me in my mouth. I caught it in my teeth," she said.

Powell told her husband about the needle that pushed inside the candy.

"In the corner, you can see a little hole in it where it was pushed through. When the police officer looked, he said it could be possibly where it was pushed through," Powell said.

The original wrapper, needle and receipt are now in the hands of police who are investigating.

"There are going to look at the video and hopefully find somebody. It is just a crazy thing that happened," Powell said.

The Lawrence family is not filing a lawsuit, but they're making sure that batch of candy is removed from Dillons and deciding if their family will purchase it again.

"It is terrifying ... because it was in there. You don't know what was on that needle. You don't know how it got in there. You don't know nothing, and it has been in your mouth," Powell said.

Lawrence police told the family if they find out who put a needle inside of one of the candy bars they could be charged with assault.
