KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A video of two students throwing punches in the halls of a KCK high school is drawing attention to what some are calling a bigger problem.

The YouTube clip of Monday's fight inside Washington High School is nearing 1,000 views.

Tamika Pledger is one of the many who have seen the video showing a boy shoving a girl to the ground.

"The first thing I thought of was, that could have been my daughter," she said.

Pledger's daughter doesn't go to the school, but she says her community turned to her after students came home with the video.

"There are situations where some women didn't make it out, and I'm here speaking on behalf of that. I'm a woman who made it out of domestic violence situations, and one of these days, you might not make it out," she said.

A Kansas City, KS, Public Schools spokesperson said they are handling the issue, but people posting the video online and media coverage is making things worse in the school.

"My question to the school district is, what's making it better?" Pledger said.

Pledger said the video isn't the school's only problem moving forward as she reads Facebook postings about the fight.

"Another guy says, 'I would have hammer knocked a (expletive)," she read.

Pledger fears this could happen again if something isn't done.

Following Monday's fight, one student was arrested for suspicion of battery.
