SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -  Most will agree - it's never a great idea to borrow money from a relative, and it's far worse to steal from your family.

That's what the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says Matthew Thomas did.

Now he's Monday's Most Wanted.

Last October, a woman told investigators she noticed money missing from her checking account, and she suspected the culprit could be her relative.

"Upon further investigation, detectives learned that Matthew Thomas had gone into a convenience store on Bristol Caverns Highway on 9 different times and used the stolen checks," said Leslie Earhart, SCSO spokesperson.

Thomas didn't realize it, but he was on camera when he went shopping on his relative's dime.

It's visual motivation for detectives to get him off the streets.

"You will see Matthew Thomas walk up to the clerk and make a purchase using one of the stolen checks," Earhart said.  "He did this a number of times.  Chances are he's out there doing this to other victims."

If you know where investigators can find Matthew Thomas, call the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office at 423-279-7500 or submit tips to learhart@scsotn.com.
