Vigil held for teen who was shot, killed by law enforcement

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The family of a teenager who was killed in an officer-involved shooting last week held a vigil for him Sunday.

Joseph Jennings was killed last Saturday. The 18-year-old was shot by Ottawa police and Franklin County Sheriff's deputies.

They showed up after someone reported Jennings had a gun, though his family says he was unarmed.

Sunday's vigil was held at City Park in Kansas City, KS.

Family and friends shared memories about Jennings and held a fundraiser for his family and funeral expenses.

His foster mother says it still doesn't seem real.

"It still hasn't hit a lot of us, that it is real," Jocelyn Hiles-Frazier said.

Jennings' family says he was depressed and had just attempted suicide when he was killed.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
