Water main break pulls fire department away from crash

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A water main break early Saturday morning caused a downtown sidewalk to buckle.

A Kansas City Fire Department truck went to refill at a hydrant on 12th street just west of Pennsylvania, after to responding to a fiery semi-truck crash on I-670. The smoke from the flames floated over the downtown area and could be seen for miles.

The pressure change caused a water main to break nearby the hydrant sending gallons of water running down the street. The water main break prevented the fire truck from returning to the accident until the water department arrives.

The water main break is currently being worked on.
