1,500 bags of heroin seized by police in Hartford

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

More than 1,500 bags of heroin that were packaged to sell on the streets were seized by police Wednesday evening.

A 2002 Chevy Cavalier was stopped in the area of Park and Washington streets just before 6 p.m. During the stop, police seized 1,523 bags as well as $415.

Police said each bag of heroin is sold at about $7, so the total amount of drugs seized was worth $10,661 at the street level.

The driver, 21-year-old Thomas Bruno and passenger of the vehicle, 19-year-old Christopher Barros, both of Hartford, were arrested after the stop.  

Both men were charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics within 1500 feet of school. Bruno also was faces with various motor vehicle charges. 

The incident remains under investigation.
