TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Over a dozen people have been arrested in the crackdown of a gang known as the 'Eastside Crips'.

A group of more than 200 federal, state and local law enforcement officials carried out raids and searches across Tucson on Wednesday.

Those raids and searches took place at nine different Tucson locations and it lead to 16 suspects being taken into custody. According to Tucson Police officials the crackdown on the 'Eastside Crips' street gang began on Wednesday morning, as part of a year-long investigation by local, state and federal agencies.

Tucson Police officials are also saying this group is connected to murders, drug trafficking and money laundering, as well as theft and has also been known for using guns to intimidate people.

In fact, as part of the raids and searches 80 guns were taken and will be processed at a crime lab to see if any of them are connected to crimes around Tucson.

The names of the suspects that were taken into custody have not yet been released, said TPD, because it is an ongoing investigation and more people could be arrested.

The suspects are facing several different charges related to drugs, murder and weapons.
