Ferguson at the top of mind for those in the metro

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The story in Ferguson, MO, is putting race relations in all cities under a microscope.

At Danny's Big Easy, located at East 18th and Vine streets, there was one thought that crossed racial lines among those enjoying the music and food - a desire to learn more as the facts about the case are now slowly coming out.

The drinks were cold, the food was hot and so were the soul sounds of the band, Double Exposure.

Most people who spoke to KCTV5 said they came to the restaurant to unwind, so Ferguson was off the table for discussion among friends.

"It's time to come out and have a good time, enjoy yourself," said Lisa Istis of Oregon, MO.

Though there was laughter Friday night, people said the situation outside of Saint Louis has dominated conversation all week and they are thirsty for information.

"Wondering what happened and how it happened. Sometimes I don't know if you're getting all the right information about it. You hear so many different ... so what is right? You don't really know what to believe and what to really believe," said Landry Gosserrand of Independence, MO.

"See right now we are hearing different stories, sketchy information, but we are just waiting on more and more information to come in," said David Smith of Kansas City, MO.

While they focused on celebration Friday, it's a topic that will stay in their minds, especially for Harriet Shepherd who came of age in the 60s, amidst many troubling situations.

"And this is one that really, really, really troubles me. But I see that they are trying to fix it a little bit down that way and I am very happy about that," said Shepherd of Lee's Summit, MO.

Several people said they were uncomfortable talking about their feelings on camera because they still have mixed feelings and are unsure yet where the truth lies in all that they've heard.
