KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
One person is dead after a police chase ended in a deadly crash.
Now, two police departments are trying to figure out just what happened.
The crash killed the driver, 21-year-old Jeremy M. House of Kansas City, KS. He was not wearing a seatbelt. A woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at an area hospital but is expected to survive. The woman is in her 30s.
The crash happened near East 45th Terrace and Pittman Road.
Independence police tried to pull over a car about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The driver refused to stop and took off at a high rate of speed. House managed to evade Independence police who lost track of the car.
When officers found the crashed car, it was upside down in a ditch in Kansas City. The driver had hit a concrete median and flipped the car. The two inside were thrown from the vehicle.
They were both transported to area hospitals, where House was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
A tow company had to use a large crane to lift the car from the ditch.
"Apparently during the pursuit, Independence lost sight of the vehicle. They came upon the crash," said Capt. Chris Sicoli, with the Kansas City Police Department.
KCTV5 News is working to find out more information about what led up to the crash and more information about the man who died.
