Person of interest in shooting arrested after standoff

Posted: Updated:

Police say a standoff ended peacefully with one person of interest in custody.

The standoff closed down the 3400 block of Park Drive for several hours.

This comes after someone reported a shooting about midnight Wednesday. Kansas City police say one person was grazed by a bullet.

When officers arrived on the scene, several people, including a suspect, ran inside a home and refused to come out.

Police said they had to act to keep everyone in the neighborhood safe.

"We don't want anybody else getting hurt. We don't want to get hurt. Even the suspects, we want to make sure it ends safely for them to," Capt. Tye Grant said.

Negotiations started about 1:45 a.m. and ended about five hours later. Police handcuffed several people for questioning and released everyone except one person of interest.

"If they would come out to begin with and talked to us, none of this would be necessary," Grant said.

Police used two tactical units to surround the home.

Two men told KCTV5 News they were held for questioning and released. They say they were at a block party before the shooting.

Police say they are thankful the situation ended without any more violence.
