A woman from Carlsbad, New Mexico is asking thieves to return a very personal possession.

Mary Alice London was staying at the Courtyard Marriott in Lubbock Friday night when her car was broken into, and two of her suitcases were stolen.

"I went to Lubbock two weeks ago to fly out to Lansing, Michigan to have an artificial leg made," London said. "I go the Hanger Clinic in Lansing for artificial legs. I'm physically handicapped and wear a prosthesis on my left leg."

"I left my car at the airport and flew to Lansing, got the leg made and flew back into Lubbock on Friday night," she said. "We got to the hotel at midnight, parked our car and left our suitcases in the car, because we had overnight stuff with us. We got a call the next morning, it was probably around 9:30, that the car had been broken into."

In one of the suitcases was a shower prosthesis that is specially made for London.

"It didn't surprise me, because we did leave the two suitcases in the car," she said. "They wouldn't know until they opened the suitcases what was in it. All they got were a bunch of toiletries and a leg that is good to no one but me."

"I just wanted to make a plea that if the thieves had any compassion whatsoever, if they would kindly return it, I would be forever grateful," she said. "I don't care about getting the rest of the stuff, but I do care about getting the shower prosthesis."

The prosthesis costs between $6,000 and $10,000. London says her health insurance won't cover it. She asks that the thieves return the prosthesis to the police or to the manager at the hotel.

"I forgive them for breaking into the car and everything, but just please return the leg it is no good to anyone but me," she said.
