A two-car crash claimed the lives of three people on Saturday afternoon, with two of the victims being residents of Greenfield, MA.

State police told CBS 3 that 54-year-old Mary Newton's Honda Accord crossed over into the eastbound side of Route 9, which then collided head-on with a recreational vehicle (RV).

It happened around 2:15 p.m.

Police said Newton, a former member of the Greenfield Planning Board, and her 16-year-old passenger both died from injuries sustained in the crash.

While police did not reveal the identity of the passenger, people close to the family told CBS 3 that it was Newton's daughter.

The driver of the RV, an 83-year-old Florida man, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, however his 68-year-old female passenger did not survive.

Police said it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor, however the crash remains under investigation.
