Three injured in gun battle outside Kansas City apartment

Posted: Updated:

Three people were hurt in a gun battle outside an east Kansas City apartment complex.

It all started about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when suspects in a black SUV started firing on people in a parking lot at the Brighton Place Apartments, located near East 24th Street and Brighton Avenue.

A teen-aged bystander, as well as a woman in her early 20s, were shot in the hip.

A third person, a man in his mid-30s, said he was parked in the lot when he was struck with an unknown object on his left side. He refused treatment at the scene.

Officers say all three are expected to survive, but witnesses are not cooperating.

Police said the crime scene showed numerous shell casings in the parking lot.

There is no suspect description at this time, and no charges have been announced.
