BALTIMORE (CNN) - Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice told reporters Thursday that his violent actions against his wife were "inexcusable."

The NFL suspended Rice two games after video showed him dragging his then-fiance from an Atlantic City casino elevator in February. Speaking at a news conference, he said he let down his family, teammates and the city of Baltimore.

"My actions that night were inexcusable," he said. "I made a huge mistake and I want to own it. I want to say in front of my teammates that I made a huge mistake."

Rice added he knows his 2-year-old daughter might read about the incident one day.

The NFL stated that Rice resolved the charges stemming from the assault and entered a pretrial intervention program in May. Under the program, he will not be prosecuted and the charges will be expunged after a year.
