MOSCOW (CNN) - In Moscow, volunteers, who want to remain unknown, are coordinating shipments and supplies to pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine.

A donations tent for the people of Donbass, the conflict-torn corner of eastern Ukraine.

The tent hardly noticed as Moscow life bustles past.

Beyond the newsstands, beyond the state run TV, and as Muscovites soak up the summer sun, it's hard to get a sense of the political heat Russia's in.

But down a Moscow side-street there is a small patch of rebel-held Donbass.

The flag of the People's Republic of Donetsk is flying over what is normally a Cossack brigade's headquarters.

There's a delivery - sealed wooden boxes of humanitarian supplies, and no weapons, donors says.

To add to the food supplies, the piles of donated clothes and all of it en route to eastern Ukraine.

Luhansk local Andrey Grankin shows a clip from a local Donbass station - Luhansk 24 - similar in style to Russia's state run Russia 24.

Terrible images of civilians killed after an apartment block was shelled.

“You need to watch this to understand that the Ukrainian army is not dropping flowers,” said Grankin, an official representative of the Luhansk People's Republic in Russia.

Some women don't want to be identified - scared of payback back home, they say.

"(Russian President Vladimir) Putin has nothing to do with this," a woman says of the war in eastern Ukraine. "It was the Ukrainian army which started it. What is happening now is genocide against the Ukrainian people."

Rebel-backers want Russia's president to send in troops to end to a conflict they still firmly believe is a fight against fascism.

Today’s bloody rebellion framed by the paranoias of Ukraine's World War II past.
