KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Hundreds of people were without power Tuesday morning after a driver smashed into a power pole.

Kansas City Board of Public Utilities worked overnight to get the power back on.

Barricades are up because there are downed wires near North 59th Street and Freeman Avenue. The power pole itself was hanging over the roadway covering up a lane and a half.

Police say the driver ran off the road and hit the power pole. It is unknown at this time what caused the driver to crash.

Police did not arrest the driver.

The crash caused more than 1,000 customers to lose power. As of 7 a.m., power was restored to the area.

Families who live between State Avenue North to Leavenworth Road were without power until crews repaired the pole.

Crews had to dig up and reset the power pole, which took several hours.
