MIAMI (WPLG/CNN) – Two men stole a master key from a postal worker in North Miami on Thursday; the U.S. Postal Service is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

“Just upset and shocked and wished I could have thrown something at them,” the unnamed postal worker said.

She never got a look at the guys, because it happened so fast. The two suspects had approached her from behind as she was dropping mail in the box a four-plex Thursday afternoon.

The crooks were only after one thing – the master key that opens a set of multi-tenant mailboxes in the area.

“They put me in a choke hold, and put me on the ground and ran off,” the woman said.

Postal inspectors went door-to-door in the quiet North Miami neighborhood Friday morning, passing out fliers and warning residents to keep a close eye on their mail and their credit reports.

The criminals could want to use that master key to get resident’s mail and steal identities.

“They'll steal your information. They'll apply online for credit cards, banking information, benefits, what have you, and they usually have that information mailed to an address or a location where they pretty much have control over it,” U.S. Postal Inspector Ivan Ramirez.

Neighbors appreciate the head’s up.

“If anybody comes here and we don't know them, we have to call the police. Hopefully, they're not violent and, you know, they're not out there to hurt anybody,” resident Titi Cole said.

The victim said her neck is pretty sore from the violent choke hold she endured, and the relative safety she feels working as a mail carrier is a little bruised, too.

She said despite her fears, she will return back to work.

“I’m fearful, but you know, what can you do?” she asked.
