EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

A 15-year-old will stand trial as an adult for allegedly stabbing a 43-year-old woman.

The Excelsior Springs Police Department said that 15-year-old Desmond L. Johnson was arrested on May 20 for offenses related to the first-degree assault and stabbing/cutting attack that happened on March 10.

Police say Desmond broke into the single mother's home in March and stabbed her arms, legs, neck and stomach. Investigators say the mother was left for dead, but she survived.

Investigators say DNA links the teen to the crime scene.

A certification hearing was held Thursday and, after the Clay County Juvenile Court's ruling, the suspect was immediately taken to the Clay County Sheriff's Department.

Friday a warrant was issued for Desmond for felony charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

His bond was set at $300,000.
