PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A home burglar quickly realized he broke into the wrong house when a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion took him down.

Phoenix police said wrestling star Bryan Danielson, who goes by Daniel Bryan, and his wife were pulling into their carport in the Arcadia area about 7 p.m. on July 24 when two suspects dropped their loot and ran out of the house.

Danielson said he chased after the men and was able to catch up to one of them.

The pro wrestler held the man down until police arrived.

The second suspect ran off.

"I took him down," said Danielson. "I put him in a rear naked choke, but not too hard. I didn't want to hurt him. I just wanted to make sure he was subdued until police could come. The fun answer would be that I put him in the 'yes' lock and he was tapping on the ground, but that's not what actually happened."

Phoenix police said the suspects broke the back door to get into the house.

The suspect in custody is 22-year-old Cesar Sosa.

Sosa was booked into the Maricopa County Jail, charged with burglary, and had a felony warrant for his arrest on kidnapping and burglary charges.

Danielson told reporters that it may not have been the best decision to chase after the burglars who may have had a gun or knife.

"It's probably not the best thing to do, because you don't know what will happen," said Danielson. "I just reacted and that's what most people do."

Danielson and his wife Bree said that their priority was making sure that their 2-year-old French bulldog Josie was OK.

"She's like a child to us," said Bree Danielson. "Bryan, when he was chasing, had no idea if they had Josie in their arms."

"They're actually lucky I got them instead of Bree, because she would have probably been a little more violent."
