MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Maumee School Board member Dave Theaker has been charged with two counts of theft in office, a felony.

Maumee Police say Theaker is accused of stealing 10 gallons of gasoline valued at $35 by pumping it into two five-gallon containers for personal use and charging it to the City of Maumee.

Theaker is supervisor of the Division of Natural Resources for Maumee and a member of the Maumee School Board.

"The police division was given some tips that this was going on," said TJ Stratton from the Maumee Police Department. "They started an investigation that is still open, is still ongoing and the two charges resulted from this."

Police say the charge of theft in office is a felony, regardless of the amount of money or value of items stolen.

No one from the City of Maumee or the school board was available for comment. Theaker is scheduled to be arraigned on August 4.
