Police arrest drug dealer near Antioch school

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police said they have arrested a drug dealer who has been selling heroin near Antioch Middle School.

On Thursday, undercover officers went to buy drugs from the suspect, Anthony Bowles, then other officers moved in to make the arrest.

Police, dressed in riot gear, moved in, but Bowles saw them coming and jumped from his car and ran away.

Police said Bowles tossed a handgun as he was running away.

Police eventually chased Bowles down. It took several officers to bring him down and put him in handcuffs.

Police said they found heroin and Xanax pills in his pockets.

The drug deal and arrest took place within 1,000 feet of Antioch Middle School on Blue Hole Road, which enhanced the charges.

Bowles faces 11 charges, most of which were for selling drugs in a school zone. He also had a charge of felony possession of a gun, which he wasn't allowed to have as a convicted felon.

Bowles was still in custody Friday morning.
