Possible homicide suspect in custody after standoff

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A standoff in KCK has ended and police say they have a person of interest in a homicide case now in custody.

The standoff came to an end shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Kansas City, KS, police surrounded the home near South 49th Terrace and Oak Grove Road about 9:57 a.m. when the wanted person they were looking for barricaded himself inside and refused to come out.

An hour later the situation escalated to the point where police set up a perimeter and brought out the department's armored personnel carrier just in case. At one point police set off a flash grenade inside the home.

After a couple of hours the person of interest came out of the home, surrendered and he was taken into custody.

The scene around the perimeter was unruly at times as neighbors tried to get a better look at things.

"There's imminent threat in that area so, you know, if you let us do our jobs, it's going to go a lot faster. It's going to go a lot quicker. It's going to be cut and dry and hopefully over in two hours. We try to keep the citizens safe and it makes our job a little bit more hard and confusing if we have to try and pay attention to everybody that's running around," said Officer Amber Hickerson.

One man from the crowd was handcuffed and later released.
