1 adult, 1 child injured in shooting released from the hospital

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A woman and a young boy injured in a shooting were released from the hospital Tuesday.

The incident happened near Cannon and Clairborne streets in Nashville.

Metro police said bullets grazed the two individuals Monday evening just after 8:30 p.m. They were rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators have not released a motive in the shooting.

Shanekia Simmons said she was sitting outside her apartment on Cannon Street with her friends and two children. The sound of gunshots made them hit the ground.

"My friend got hit in the face by a bullet," Simmons said. "We just don't understand that."

Eyewitnesses told Channel 4 the victim was holding her young daughter during the shooting. Blood stains could still be seen on the girl's dress.

Simmons also said the 6-year-old boy is her friend's son. Knowing the gunman or possible gunmen are still on the loose, Simmons watched her own family closely today. If anything could convince her to move, it's the thought of her children ducking for cover - again.

"Bullets have no eyes, so you never know who is going to get hit," she said.

Theressa Stewart heard the gunfire, and ran to help the victims. The former Navy nurse said the scene reminded her of a war zone.

"Everybody was crying, and we were just on the floor, and all I could say was Jesus, Jesus, Jesus," Stewart said.

Police said they're searching for four male suspects in connection to the shooting.
