Chiefs QBs, rookies arrive at training camp

ST. JOSEPH, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting back to work Monday - the first official practice for the rookies, quarterbacks and some selected veterans.

The full team won't come in until Thursday. That is the first official practice that is open to the public.

"It is great. We have some good weather out here today, and get the rookies out here," quarterback Chase Daniel said.

Even though the practice field is filled with a bunch of new names, there is still something that brings optimism and excitement about the first day of camp.

"It is excitement for the younger guys ... I think a little bit of jitters and nervousness and anxiety," Chiefs receiver Kyle Williams said.

One player Chiefs fans will be watching in camp this year is Alonzo Highsmith Jr., son of the former NFL superstar Alonzo Highsmith.

The rookie linebacker is hoping to make a name for himself with the Chiefs.

"You know my dad, when he played, he was a great player and give him his credit. But I'm older now, and now I want to be able to have people come up to me and say, 'Alonzo ... not big Alonzo but little Alonzo,'" he said.

A family fun night is scheduled in St. Joseph on Saturday.
