WOODRUFF, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A mother in Woodruff has been charged after police say her daughter had been severely beaten with bamboo poles Duct taped together and other objects.

Chief Alan Bledsoe said Woodruff police officers received information that a child had been abused at a home on Hughes Street.

Officer responded and found a 16-year-old female who had been recently severely beaten, according to Bledsoe.

He said through their investigation they learned the girl's mother, Teneshia Osby, beat the child repeatedly with multiple objects including bamboo poles that had been taped together, a broom stick that had been broken in half, wooden kitchen spoons, a kitchen pot, a piece of wood and a belt.

The victim told police she had lost consciousness at one point during the beating, Bledsoe said.

The victim was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries.

The teen and her two minor sisters were taken into emergency protective custody by Woodruff police, said Bledsoe.

Bledsoe said officers attempted to get Osby to come to the police station.

He said they later received word that Osby had been admitted into the hospital after drinking an unknown quantity of bleach in an attempt to harm herself.

Once released from the hospital, she was charged with neglect of a child by abuse.

She is currently being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
