Police investigating teen who was shot in Antioch

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The 19-year-old who was shot in the head on Wednesday night in Antioch is now being investigated by police in connection to robberies in the area.

Officers responded to the shooting at the Mission Mill Creek apartment complex on Arbor Place at 11:25 p.m.

When officers got there, William D. Simmons allegedly told detectives that two men appeared from a breezeway and tried to rob him, which is when he was shot.

Police said they have strong reason to doubt Simmons' story after analyzing evidence and talking to witnesses.

They say Simmons may be connected to four apartment complex robberies that happened earlier that night on Ashlawn Place, Hickoryview Drive, Swiss Avenue and Zermatt Avenue.

Police say it is possible that Simmons was shot by an associate or an unknown victim.

Simmons is in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
