Police: Double shooting leaves 1 dead

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One person is dead and another is injured in the city's latest homicide, but many more could have been hurt when gunshots flew at a Kansas City apartment complex.

Kansas City police identified the victim as 21-year-old Darion Page.

Many families watched police swarm the place they call home near the Gatehouse Apartment and Townhomes late Tuesday night.

Police got a call about 10:30 p.m. on a sound of shots being fired in the 11800 block of Holiday Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

As investigators were canvassing the area, they found Page dead from apparent gunshot wounds in a nearby parking lot.

Police said there is no suspect information at this time.

A neighbor who has lived in the neighborhood for nine years says shootings aren't common in her specific area, but they are all too common in Kansas City.

"It's truly sad and unfortunate. God bless the families. We have to get out there as community leaders and refocus on our children, our teenagers," Janice Wallace said.

The shooting comes just days after city leaders announced the city's homicide rate is on track to be the lowest in 40 years.

For those who know the people shot, they are more than crime statistics. They want to know why this happened and who is responsible.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
