Coca-Cola bottling Company Hiring up to 50 new part time employees in Roanoke

ROANOKE (WSLS) - Company leaders announced today that Coca-Cola Bottling Company will hire forty to fifty new part time employee in Roanoke.

Five years ago, the company moved its logistics center to Integrity Drive behind Kroger in Bonsack. That location underwent a 36,000-square-foot renovation a year ago.

Inside the downtown Roanoke plant, 1,500 cans are put together every minute. That translates to one 100,000 cases being sent out to locations in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Tennessee each day.

Plant Manager Mike Croom explains, "right now we are on target to sell twenty four million cases in this plant."

That success translates to expansion and more jobs at C.C.B.C.'s Production Facility, and its 110,000 square foot logistics center.

Shena Byrd is a new hire. She started checking pallets four and a half months ago.

"I was looking for something that would be more flexible with school and with my children," Byrd said.

Rodney Delp has been with the company for seventeen years.

He says, "It is great to see how we help the community. We are helping individuals with part time work force and new jobs, but also just the community in itself."

C.C.B.C. prides itself on commitment and conservation. Ionized air is used to clean the tops of cans, which saves eighteen thousand gallons of water per day.

Croom explains, "It is also like a family run business."

There is also a strong focus on detail. A vacuum seal checks cans for imperfections. If the can falls it doesn't make it to the truck. Bottles are also inspected thoroughly.
